Description
This cover will protect your 5.5″ x 3.5″ sized (Field Notes/WORD/etc) notebooks with a fierceness seldom seen from any part of the cotton plant. That’s because the cotton plant has teamed up with bees, or more specifically, the bees’ wax. This combination creates a naturally rugged, water resistant, and sturdy fabric that ages with a similar look to leather. These covers are capable of caring for two notebooks at a time.
These are made from 10oz. or 12oz. cotton canvas, then hand-waxed in Texas, using beeswax sourced from local bees, then sun-baked to allow the wax to absorb in to the fabric. This process will give your notebook cover an amazing and subtle honey scent.

These notebook covers will show scratches and become distressed, but it will only get better looking over time, and the pattern that emerges will be unique to your cover. If you want a more “used” or “lived-in” look for your cover, you can speed the process by scrunching or squeezing it, then flattening it back out. If you want a less “used” or “lived-in” look for your cover, you can use heat to “reset” the pattern back to original. Use a hair dryer to heat the fabric until the color looks even again. A heat gun works faster, and open flame works too but isn’t recommended. If you use a clothes iron to flatten and reset, place some paper between the canvas and iron.
Caring for your notebook cover:
- Clean with a damp cloth
- Do not use soap
- Do not machine wash
- Do not dry clean
- Cuddling with it at night is okay

I bought the Field Notes cover for just that purpose, and I bought the Cinnamon/Cayenne/Red color for its visibility. Accomplished that goal. Material is rugged and stitching is flawless. Will likely be buying more as gifts, or to store in different packs to be ready to go for any adventure. I assumed the cover is identical to the Travelers Notebook which uses an elastic cord for keeping the notebook in place. The product photo does not show that, but Normalcy Bias help me miss that detail. Instead, this cover uses a slip-in pocket to hold the front or rear notebook cover. It is a tight fit, which is good to prevent you losing the notebook by it somehow slipping out. An extra couple millimeters longer on the cover would be easier to work with. This is not worthy of reducing the rating.

The cover is stiff enough to hold its shape but flexible enough to carry comfortably in the same front pocket as my wallet. I’m only using index cards at the moment so I’ll re-evaluate after adding Field Notes but I think it will stay put.

Nice simple waxed canvas cover. It is a refreshing change from plastic/nylon/polyester materials. Cotton is becoming very rare. Cotton items have their own natural touch and feeling. I love these tough little covers and was psyched to see they were restocked. I bought the black cover and the dusty olive cover, both very nice, both with a velcro patch. Last time around, I was able to fit a soft-cover Moleskine notebook into one of the lighter gauge 10 ounce covers (without a patch), which worked VERY nicely as well. You can iron patches on these covers quite nicely too. Just make sure you like the patch, because this cover will last you.

This is a great cover for fitting 2 field notes or Moleskine Cahier notebooks. I have a larger Fillion notebook, but this is great for keeping on your person to jot down notes or such. I opted for the patch version, as I find it easier to orient a patch on the front cover so you don’t have to flip it around to figure out which side is the front before you open it. Awesome value for what you get: a high quality, durable, made in America cover for your Field Notes. The dark olive color I got is a smooth charcoal with a subtle green hue, and is breaking in beautifully. Very pleased with that choice.
One of the things I love about Field Notes is the character that develops on the covers over time- however after 2-3 months in the back pocket of my jeans that character turns to wear, which turns into the booklet falling apart. This cover absorbs much of this intense wear (while developing nice “character” itself thanks to the waxed canvas), and still leaves the Field Notes with subtle signs of use without falling apart. It is slightly taller than the original Field Notes with some extra space in the booklet sleeve, but remains thin enough when folded up to be unnoticeable in a back-pocket of a pair of jeans when wearing. The second internal sleeve is nice for left-handed Field Notes users, securely storing business cards, tickets, etc. and more. I’ve really enjoyed my cover and will happily recommend/gift it to others in the future.

While a Fieldnotes book holds up admirably without a cover, after time it begins to degrade and peel apart near the spine.
I began the hunt for a slim cover, I came to the conclusion leather was not going to be ideal.
I eventually came across these canvas covers and, given the low cost, bought one without hesitation.
For me this is the ideal Fieldnotes cover. It’s rugged and slim, no thicker than a notebook itself.
Not quite 5 stars only due to the crooked stitching on the cover, which doesn’t affect fitment, just purely cosmetic.

It’s simple, like a poncho liner; it does what it’s supposed to do very well, without extra bells & whistles.
I ordered the darker brown version, without Velcro patch, as a Christmas gift to myself. It’s exactly what I ordered, and at a great price too! True to promises, it does fit a couple 3.5″ x 5.5″ notebooks. I tried jamming a pen into it, too, but it didn’t fit. I’m thinking a smaller pen and a break-in period will probably let me fit one inside the fold.
It’s obviously not waterproof, but if you bought a waxed canvas cover hoping it would be waterproof, you might want to rethink your assumptions. But it does save the notebook covers from the common wear and tear of everyday life. It serves the same purpose as the book covers I used to have to put on my schoolbooks, but with more style and durability.
Get one of these. If you don’t get one for yourself, get one for someone you love.

Excellent work. It fits my Field Notes exactly as said. It stiff enough to not be floppy which strangely adds a quality feeling to it.
I would not consider it waterproof or water resistant at all. I tried dibbling some water over it and it absorbed right away. But you can tell there is definitely wax absorbed into the canvas nonetheless due to the stiffness.
I got the “black” color. It is very slightly off black if I had to describe it due to the nature of the waxed canvas. Not grey/slate though. Just be aware you aren’t getting a very black item.
One thing I would have loved is if there were an option to add cards or maybe a string down the inner middle similar to a Travel Journal.

This cover is very simple, it covers your approximately 3 x 5 notebook ( I use it on Applebandit notebook).
The wax coating should give it some water repellency, but if dunked the notebook will get wet (duh!). Otherwise it looks like a canvas-type fabric — rugged and wear resistant — with what looks like great and long lasting stitching.
I bought it to keep my edc notebook from being destroyed when carried in my back pocket. As such I would have no need for a pen/pencil holder attached to it as it needs to flex when I sit.
Simply, it works for me. Good product, fair price, fast shipping, highly recommended for minimalist design. But if you want something with lots of attachments, bells and whistles; you need to look elsewhere.

Just received my red cover. I teach culinary arts and this cover is great for working around water, juices, etc. and anything else that could get your notebook wet. Wipes off easily and fits in my chest pocket. Would be perfect if it had an elastic band to hold my fisher space pen. A definite keeper otherwise though.

So far the cover has been great! It’s very sturdy, and does a pretty good job as a brace for writing. There is enough room to put two Field Note books in the cover. It’s slightly larger than the cover (duh!) so if the pocket you were putting the notebook in before you got the cover was…tight…you might have trouble getting it in there with the cover on. It does fit in all my cargo pockets of my various brands (5.11, Tru-Spec, Wranglers) of pants, so that’s good. The only thing I would add is some way to attach a pen/pencil. Doesn’t take away from the utility of the cover, though.

I had been searching for an ideal Field Note cover to protect the Field Notes notebook for long. I dislike the leather version it won’t fare well with my hot, humid and unpredictable raining weather country, Malaysia. The leather will be constantly wet and you know how the smell and texture of leather will become after a while.
So this is a perfect: canvas with bee wax that will age well with some water resistance. It has two pockets to keep two Field Notes, or whatever you like on the other slide-in pocket (passport, credit card, cash, name card etc.). I wanted to purchase one with velcro loop but it’s sold out for the colors I prefer.
I give 4 stars as I would like see this improvement in the next production: a small loop sewed at the side of the cover to serve as pen sleeve. I believe it’s a great feature to add without adding bulk to it. So what I do know is I add a elastic band at the center of the cover to clip my Fisher Space Pen bullet outside the cover. It adds to much bulk and distort the cover if I clip it in the middle where the cover folds.

I don’t do “ops” but I am old school, I prefer to write things down instead of tapping them into a phone, so I keep a moleskin or field notes on me, usually in the back pocket. The cardboard covers kept tearing off which was very annoying. Got this to rectify the problem and so far, so good. It’s not bulky so it’s very easy to slip in the back pocket with a folded bandana.

I wanted a cover for my Fields Notes so it wouldn’t bend so much. The waxed canvas cover does a good job protecting it and reduces the bend somewhat but I wish it wasn’t as wide. Height-wise it fits snuggly but width-wise there a little too much room to spare and because of that it no longer fits in my jacket pocket.
I get that its too accommodate two notebooks but I myself don’t see how thats practical for everyday use.

Not much else to say after the other reviews. Good solid product, fair price. Supports a “made in the US” company too. I keep mine in my pocket right next to my wallet and now I can remember stuff and stash all my reminder post-its until I get home. This product is excellent for my field notes notebooks. It has two sleeves to fit one in each side. I have opted to put one in the right sleeve and put rubber bands and paper clips in the left sleeve. It works great like that, nothing has been lost or bent so far.
