The third episode of the All Day Ruckoff Podcast features an interview with GORUCK founder and CEO Jason McCarthy!
We were lucky enough to grab nearly an hour of his time during one of the busiest months for GORUCK. We discuss a TON of different topics including:
- Christmas in July
- GORUCK GR3 Pre-Order
- GORUCK Workshop
- Operation Clearfield
- Jason’s Summer Plans
- Past Six Months
- Constellation 24
- Jason’s Next Event as Cadre
- Jason’s Next Event as Participant
- Spearhead Embroidery on Rucks
- GR3 Configurations
Don’t worry fellow GRT… this is a no-nonsense interview and we don’t waste your time explaining what a GORUCK Light is or any of that other Basic GRT stuff.
The above picture is from when Jason and I hung out in 2013… which was two years after my first event and the first time we met. Time flies and it’s always great to connect and see how he’s doing. Our goal is to have Jason on the podcast a few times a year so we can pick his brain about GORUCK and their upcoming gear and events.

Brian says
GR3 with MOLLE and side handles for sure. Makes it more versatile.
Brian Lohr says
So glad that side handles are an option! Definitely makes the pack, especially one this large, more usable.
F3_Stallion says
Very cool to hear Jason talk about this stuff directly.
Definitely would go with the MOLLE and the handle on a GR3.
Brian Lohr says
Agreed! It’s always great to hear Jason’s voice when he’s talking about this stuff! He’s got a lot of passion that can be lost on text.
David says
I agree with Victor on the GR3. MOLLE and side handles to use for travel.
Brian Lohr says
The side handles are an awesome addition for travel! Will make it a lot easier to grab it out of spaces it gets shoved into.
Geoff says
I have no need for that big of a bag, but I do like the idea of the carry handles, and to me it just wouldn’t be a GORUCK pack without the front MOLLE.
Brian Lohr says
It’s almost part of the look at this point… although I know the “Slick” line has a very passionate following as well.
Josh Morgan says
If I get a GR3 I’ll get the MOLLE and the handles. I loved hearing Jason talk a bit more about some of the inner workings of GORUCK as a company. That was cool.
Brian Lohr says
Thanks so much Josh! I know Jason is very active in the Tough group and answers questions on Facebook but it’s always interesting to hear him talk about his passions. So glad you enjoyed it!
Victor Barczyk says
I think the GR3 would be the perfect travel bag. I would get the MOLLE webbing and definitely the handles.
Brian keep up the good work and can’t wait for your next podcast.
Brian Lohr says
Thanks Victor! Truly appreciate all of the support and encouragement. Public speaking and recording my voice isn’t something I consider a strength so this has definitely been a more challenging project for myself. Hearing that people enjoy just adds fuel to the creative fire so thank you again!
TAGG says
Another great episode. I really liked hearing the thoughts around including the arrowhead on the outside of some of the rucks.
I’m still debating if I need a GR3 but it’ll definitely have the handles and the MOLLE webbing if I do.
Brian Lohr says
Agreed! Not too sure if I have a consistent need for a pack the size of the GR3… but would definitely need the handles. GORUCK has gotten a lot of flak about that on Reddit recently so I figured it would be an interesting question.
PS: Congrats on winning the free entry into PATHFINDER 013 this week!!!
