It’s that time of year again and All Day Ruckoff is at SHOT Show. As always the first day was a complete whirl. Each year I fly out from Seattle around 6 am and show up here just as the show is opening so that I don’t miss that day.
Arriving at SHOT Show 2017
The plane ride in was fairly uneventful. There was a guy on the flight with a GORUCK Bullet 10 without a patch and it took all my willpower to not slap an ADR SHOT Show 2017 patch on there when he wasn’t looking.
The first thing I do every SHOT Show is hit up the Media room. That place is. the. best. Coffee, muffins, and fresh fruit. In tow (as always) is the laptop, mouse, and GORUCK Wire Dopp. I’ve got all of my chargers and a battery pack in there so that I don’t run out of anything at the show.
SHOT Show – Wednesday
After the Media Room I searched on the SHOT Show app for beer because it’s 11 am and I’m in Vegas. The app somehow delivered and I was at Gun Craft Brewing. The Red IPA is easy to see in the picture because red beers and IPAs are delicious. That’s the one I drank. The Pale Ale is kind of there because pales are okay and the other two are in the land of bokeh because no one cares about them :)
I love my Garmin Fenix 3 HR. It’s a wonderful watch and I was very excited when Garmin announced they were coming out with the Fenix 5. As a side note they skipped the Garmin 4 not because the 3HR was kind of like a 4 but because the number four sounds like death in Chinese. It’s an unlucky number just like how hotels skip the number thirteen in the states. There are three versions of this watch: 5S, 5, and 5X.
From what I gathered talking at the booth the Fenix 5 and 5S will be released in the next few months then the Fenix 5X will follow shortly after.
Honestly the Fenix 5X is the one I’m after. The mapping on it looks great and will come in handy when I’m getting runs in when traveling. Either way I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these models. The versions of the watches they had at this show (which are production or near-production) have way more features and work better than the Suunto Spartan Ultra which was released almost half a eyar ago.
SHOT Show – Thursday
Thursday is here and the plan is to start at Mystery Ranch then go visit the nice people at Hill People Gear. Here’s to a successful second day!
