The GORUCK GR3 is quite the pack. At 45 liters it can carry everything you need and then some. In the past I’ve packed mine up with my clothes (plus my kid’s clothes) for traveling and it didn’t bat an eye. Up until now this monstrosity (meant in a good way) has only been available in black which makes it all the more exciting that it’s available in Steel.
The Steel GR3 comes with four rows of webbing so you can further customize it. When GORUCK ran the initial GR3 pre-order there was an option to buy a slick version however the webbing version seems to have won the popularity contest.
GORUCK’s steel color is one of their more interesting colorways. Depending on the lighting the color can look very different. If you’ve seen a steel pack in person then you know how true that statement is. Sometimes it looks dark, sometimes it looks a little blueish, and sometimes it looks like steel.
The black webbing on the steel looks great and I wish GORUCK released more colored rucks with black webbing. There were a few small runs years ago but that was because there was excess material.
The GR3 is a great pack that I’ve used numerous times for traveling. I’m glad I pre-ordered it when it was released but I must say the steel color does look nice. At the very least I’m glad that GORUCK is finally starting to release the GR3 in additional colors for people to enjoy. Thoughts on GORUCK releasing the GR3 in Steel? Wish they’d release it in a different color? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks. My wife calls it first world problems, but I just can’t decide. I guess I will go with black one …

I am undecided by steel vs black in gr3. I have black Rucker and steel gr2. Any thoughts?

I think the black is timeless. The Steel is a great color but for a travel bag (which is what I use my GR3 for) I like how the black webbing blends into the black bag.

Brian, I recently picked up the GR1 26L in steel. It’s a great color to be sure. Very tempted by this one.

The Steel IS a great color right? It’s interesting how it looks different in different lighting and is probably one of the harder colors to take pictures of… I’ve got a Bullet in Steel and it’s great :D
I hope all is going well over there Blaine!
