In podcast episode 075 I interviewed Savage Race co-founder Sam Abbitt. During the interview he mentioned that they were planning the 2019 GORUCK x Savage Race event schedule. It is exciting to announce that those dates are set!
This year (2019) there are 12 GORUCK x Savage Race Tough events on the calendar. These events will occur at Savage Race courses which means the Mid-West to East Coast is in luck!
Current lucky cities include:
- Dade City, Florida (Saturday, 3.16.19 12:01 am)
- Dallas, Georgia (Saturday, 3.30.19 12:01 am)
- Kennedyville, Maryland (Saturday, 5.4.19 12:01 am)
- Charlotte, North Carolina (Saturday, 5.18.19 12:01 am)
- Zanesfield, Ohio (Saturday, 6.8.19 12:01 am)

On a side note it is cool to see GORUCK continue with the partnership in 2019. These outside partnerships are exciting because they both expand and grow our community. The partnership with Savage Race started back in 2018 and it’s great to see it back and bigger this year.
Are you planning on hitting up one of these events? Would love to hear which one in the comments below!

I have done a few Savage races Tough Mudders and couple dozen Spartans as well as a Spartan Ultra beast and Hurricane Heat. Looking at GORUCK because I have several F3 brothers that do it, The teaming with Savage is very intriguing to me, how does it work do you sign up for each separately or is it a combo pass? Do you finish the tough then roll up to the Savage start line? How has this event gone over with the OCR community? And your GORUCK community?
Brian ADR says
The Savage Tough events have, from what I’ve heard, gone over very in the GORUCK community. Everyone I’ve talked to who has done the events has had a great time. This year they all start at 12:01 AM on Saturday and last between 10 and 12 hours. They end at the finish area of the Savage Race event but they don’t go through the course while the Savage Race event is in progress. Technically you could probably run the Savage Race after you complete the Savage Tough but I haven’t heard of anyone doing that yet.
This year Savage Race is introducing a GORUCK Rucking Division at all of their races. These heats kick off at 9:30 AM and follow the course of the race. It’s essentially the Savage Race with backpacks and weight and possibly some extra sandbags.
I’d say the GORUCK Savage Tough is GORUCK with a dose of Savage Race and the GORUCK Rucking Division is Savage Race with a dose of GORUCK. If that makes any sense. I had Sam Abbitt (founder of Savage Race) on the podcast and he talks about the event if you’re interested in listening to that.
