GORUCK released their Zipper Pull Replacement system late July, 2016. The kits were originally released in four colors: Black, Ranger Green, Wolf Grey, and OD Green.
For $6 the zipper pull replacement kit comes with ten pieces of heat shrink tubing and about ten feet of paracord. If you can’t math well then know that it’s enough to replace ten zipper pulls in total.
Although designed to replace zipper pulls on GORUCK packs there’s no reason why you could not use these to replace zipper pulls on non-GORUCK bags.
Above is a zipper pull that I replaced on my Tom Bihn Brain Bag. I am a fan of the heat shrink zipper pulls and have added them to pretty much all of my packs. If you enjoy the heat shrink zipper pulls know that you can easily add them to your favorite non-GORUCK bags too.
These zipper pull kits are put together by Survival Straps who produce everything in the USA. The heat shrink tubing is cut straight and looks really nice. If you have purchased heat shrink tubing in the past then you know it can be a little tricky to get a clean cut.
Not satisfied with the color options that GORUCK offers? Check out Amazon for a ton of made in the USA paracord. Curious how to properly attach these to your pack? Check out our “Repairing & Modifying GORUCK Zipper Pulls” article.
These Zipper Pull Replacement Kits can been purchased from GORUCK in Black, Ranger Green, Wolf Grey, and OD Green for $6.
Summary
The Zipper Pull Replacement System from GORUCK is really a decent deal. You will be hard pressed to get some heat shrink and paracord for $6 or less. That being said if you want a lot of paracord and heat shrink tubing you can get a better deal buying off Amazon.
Nice write-up on this, Brian. I was wondering if the GORUCK replacement kits include the adhesive-lined shrink tubing, like they install on their zippers from the factory, or if they are the non-adhesive-lined type of shrink tubing. The reason I ask is that I’ve found that the non-adhesive-lined type doesn’t hold up nearly as well, and tends to bunch up and wear out quicker than the adhesive-lined type. However, finding the right adhesive-lined type has become a bit of a challenge (for me, anyway).
