Back in November of 2013 GORUCK released a dog leash for our canine friends. Shortly after in December, 2013 they pulled it from the site and promptly refunded everyone who had purchased one. It was a month or so until they released a new updated version of the leash and it wasn’t until recently that I bought one of those. My dog is nine years old and doesn’t pull hard so I hasn’t been worried about the clasp breaking. Of course when a dog is mentioned a picture must be shown so here he is.
However, now that I have the new dog leash (and some motivation from a recent ADR comment) I figure what better time to post some comparison shots? In all pictures the black leash is the new one and the coyote leash is the old one.
There really aren’t too many differences between the old leash and the new one. The clasp has clearly been updated and is larger now. They had mentioned that the issue was with the clasp so I guess they found one that worked and can handle the larger dogs. It’s probably worth noting that the sewing pattern is the same on both sides for each leash.
In terms of length the new leash is maybe an inch or two longer than the old one but that could be chalked up to a lot of different reasons. For one, the old leash looks messy because we tied the handle around itself a few times to shorten it. I untied it but that could have led to some bunching which may have permanently shortened the leash. However, the difference is so minor that I’m guessing it’s just a batch difference between the two runs.
Overall the new leash looks and works awesome. If you’ve got a dog and are in the market for a new standard no-frills leash this is definitely a good option.

I’ve been using the new version leash since it was released with my 85 pound Golden Retriever without any issues.

Good to know! I’m sure they got the kinks figured out on this one… from what I’ve seen GORUCK isn’t one to make the same mistake twice. Great pic of your Golden!
