When I was at the Arden Tough Range Day event I received a few comments on the MOLLE clips that were attached to my pack. Sometimes I forget that not everyone knows about some of the smaller companies out there, which makes sense, because it wasn’t too long ago that I didn’t know who Steel Flame was either. This review will cover the MOLLE clip, which is just one of the handmade goods created by Steel Flame.
For those who don’t know, Steel Flame is based out of California and they make a wide variety of copper and titanium accessories. Some of their specialties include dog tags, AR and knife accessories, key chains, jewelry, and MOLLE clips. All of the goods that Steel Flame produces are made in the USA so when you buy from them it’s nice to know that you’re supporting USA manufacturing and design.
The Steel Flame MOLLE clips are accessories for your pack that allow you to add another layer of customization. They don’t do anything necessarily but they look really nice and allow you to show your support for ideas and companies that you like. They measure 1″ by 1″ and fit nicely around the webbing on a pack. They’re fairly easy to get on but difficult enough so that you’ll feel comfortable that they won’t fall off. The ones pictured above are currently on a TAD Litespeed but they also look great on GORUCK gear, or any other packs with webbing. On this pack I have the Special Projects Division logo from Prometheus Design Werx, the dog paw from Steel Flame, and the Dog ICON logo from Shepherd Firearms.
The copper MOLLE clips are finished with a Vintage Gunmetal patina which provides some variance to the way that they turn out. As you can see from the three I have they’re all very close in finish but there is still a slight difference. Also, because these are hand pressed, there can be slight differences in depth of the overall impression left on the clip.
On a side note, one thing that I really like about the Steel Flame company is that they are big on supporting charities. They do this by routinely releasing limited edition dog tags and MOLLE clips in which they donate a portion (or all) of the sales. The most recent release benefited the HATE project and included two MOLLE clips and two dog tags… which sold out within the day. These limited editions add to the high degree of collect-ability of Steel Flame products found in the community… which definitely adds a fun aspect to the mix.
