In typical GORUCK fashion I received an email the morning of Thursday, June 26th 2015 that there would be a PX and free beer down at the GORUCK warehouse that evening. Not being one to miss out on free beer I headed down there as soon as I could. We were instructed to not arrive before 5:30 pm so I decided to look around the area (an interesting piece of South Seattle) to see where I could kill some time.
There was the Westland Distillery which looked promising with their 4.5/5 (22 reviews) on Yelp. However, the $$$ pricing coupled with the thought of showing up absolutely trashed to the PX swayed me away.
Although the name had me cracking up this wasn’t going to be where I ended up… however I did have to take a picture of the sign.
The Gastropod was it… you can’t argue with craft brews. Two $4 pints later and it was nearing 5:30 pm which meant time to head over to GORUCK.
The GORUCK warehouse is located in one of the most unassuming buildings out there. The only thing to acknowledge that you’re at the warehouse is a flag being flown in front of the door… and there’s a chance that was only up because people were arriving for the PX.
One of the first things you see when entering the warehouse is an incredibly large Old Glory flag hanging on the wall. There’s no greeting like that.
The PX table was stocked to the brim with GORUCK gear… some of which hasn’t been seen in a long, long time. In that above picture you can view some “unicorns” on the table.
Those two pictures should be pretty self-explanatory when it comes to a few of the unicorns that were present at the PX.
Why were we here again? Oh yeah… for the free beer! Who can say no to tubs of beer in ice? Not me… that’s for sure.
Did I mention there are dogs everywhere at the GORUCK warehouse? At least two at all times… the above is named Moses and is one of the sweetest dogs around.
This was pretty sweet… Jack’s puppy had to make sure to say good bye to all dogs that showed up to enjoy the PX.
While it might look like Moses and Jack’s puppy are fighting at all times Moses is actually teaching the pup some valuable life lessons. Moses had such incredible self-control when playing with the pup that it was truly something to watch.
As for the gear seconds there was a TON to go around. Some had very minor issues like the above pack which had a semi-off-center sew job on one piece of MOLLE. This pack was selling for $125 which, to me, seems like a steal for a GORUCK pack.
Some other pieces of gear had much larger issues like the above GR0. Notice anything missing? A zipper perhaps? If you could get a new zipper on there then that thing would be as good as new… if you couldn’t then you’d have one near-unusable pocket.
In the end it was awesome to spend some time drinking and chatting with friends you don’t see often… some you haven’t even seen in years. I’m hoping GORUCK has these, or something like them, more often. It’s a great excuse to get together with some amazing people and friends.

That looks awesome. I wish I could get to Seattle more often.

Do they normally bring that type of gear (with slight deficiencies) to kill that 5k events? I’ll be doing my first one in August.

I’m not sure, the Seattle one was probably a little bit different because their warehouse is here. It would be really nice if they did though!
