Now we don’t want to alarm people here (or maybe we do) as this is pure conjecture but it appears that GORUCK is phasing out their Radio Ruck line. This conclusion was reached through a number of small events that we’ll detail in this post… then you can decide what GORUCK is doing with it. First off, if you check out the product page you’ll notice that the only remaining color is Multi-Cam. Not only are the Black and Coyote colors sold out they’re no longer even available for options. You’ll also notice (thanks to a fellow GORUCK Guard member) that the Radio Ruck is not listed under the hover-over menu of “Original Rucks” as seen in the image below.
If this wasn’t enough we received an email today from GORUCK with a coupon code (GORADIOruck195) for 15% off of the Radio Ruck. This email was sent out to members of the GORUCK Affiliate program to help promote the sale of the remaining Multi-Cam Radio Rucks. We’d say if you were eyeing the Multi-Cam Radio Ruck now may be the time to buy… but we’d also suggest signing up for an event and getting 20% off instead of using that code for 15% off. Save money on the ruck AND have a good time with it… that’s the way to go.
Now comes the part of why is this being posted… is it really worth an update? It was a tough decision because it kind of sounds like an advertisement. In the end we decided to post it because we think the information is beneficial to those who want a Radio Ruck. Everyone knows enough about supply and demand to know that if the supply disappears and there’s still demand then prices go up. We wanted to let ADR readers know that if you have your eyes set on a Radio Ruck now might be the time to try and scoop one up from either GORUCK, SkyMall, GR Trading, or eBay because there’s (what we consider) a good chance they won’t be around forever.
Jason McCarthy himself confirmed recently on GORUCK’s Facebook page that they are indeed phasing out the Radio Ruck, with the GR0 taking its place.
Thanks for the confirmation!
I have the SAND Radio Ruck. I love this Ruck! I only wish they still offered it in Black…
Everyone I talk to who has a Radio LOVES theirs… that’s why I’m a little surprised it’s going away but I guess the GR0 or GR1 will be the close alternatives.
I use the Radio for my minimalist work bag (mac air, a few papers, etc.) and it’s the perfect size. That said, I think most people in the market for a GR pack are looking for something beefier, and the recent introduction of the GR0 probably fills enough of a gap where the Radio doesn’t have much of a market.
GR is still figuring out their lineup so I’m sure they’ll continue making some tweaks over time. It appears they have, or are in the process of, phased out the Sand color in at least some of their products. Now I regret waiting to get my Sand GR1!
