GORUCK has been teasing the idea of an updated Rucker for some time now. It wasn’t until January, 2018 when we started seeing the Ruckers selling out on the website with no restock in sight.
For at least a week users to the website were treated with the above image and there were a number of threads asking of the Rucker had been discontinued. Thankfully the Rucker is alive and well, back with a few upgrades.
To start we’ve got a new elevated internal ruck plate sleeve which should help get that weight off of your lower back. In the passed we’ve talked about cutting up yoga blocks for that but this will hopefully solve that issue entirely.
The bladder holder will now a D ring that you can slip a carabiner through. The D ring in the new Rucker looks very similar to the one located in the GORUCK GR3.
The new internal plate sleeve appears to feature a 3″ x 2″ Velcro loop on it so you can bring another favorite patch along for the ride. What will the new GORUCK Rucker set you back?
The revised GORUCK Rucker comes in at $215 which is $20 more than the price of the previous Rucker. For $20 more you’re getting the elevated ruck plate pocket (plus D ring) which we are very excited to try out. Getting that weight off your lower back is critical to crushing long rucks and GORUCK events so we can’t wait to see how this plays out.

Does the plate pocket accommodate the non-expert sized GoRuck Plates? I have the original Rucker and the plate pouch holds them pretty well with the strap through the handle, but I am considering buying the new one for my wife and would like to be able to let her use my plates without having to buy new Expert Plates.

I am still waiting for the new Rucker 2.0 I ordered to show up, but the page specifically says the new pocket in it fits the Expert plates which are shorter than the standard plates, so I would say no. I don’t have standard plates, but by their measurements they sound like they are a perfect fit for the regular inside pocket on the older Rucker packs, or even the GR line.

Got one on order and will be able to personally answer that when it shows up. It doesn’t look like it but maybe there’s some way to finagle it in there… we’ll see!

Awesome!! I look forward to your report.

From what I read, you can put the non-expert ones in the open top pocket but they won’t fit in the velcro pocket. So it won’t be great for bear crawls or mountain climbers
Brian Lohr says
That’s the truth right there. Expert fit perfect in the Velcro pocket and the others fit in the open pocket.

So my (wife’s) new Rucker 2.0 showed up today (along with several other Goruck goodies). Anyway, while I do not have the standard plates, I can say that the new pocket on the Rucker 2.0 will not fit the standard (long) plates. My Expert (20 & 30 lb) fit in it perfectly, with no more room top to bottom. Saying that though, the choose to leave the standard inside pocket in place, so you can still stand the longer standard plate up in that pocket, but then the new pocket will be covered up, and unusable. Anyway, I love the new Rucker 2,0 pack… it’s awesome. Much stiffer than my older GR0, probably twice as thick shoulder straps, and the new pocket does a really awesome job at moving the weight comfortably to the top of the pack. It’s awesome! Hope this helps!

Thanks for the Info, I was really hoping that the standard ruck plates would fit as I have 3 of them and didn’t really want to order expert plates to fit the Rucker 2.0.

Woohoo! I just picked one of these up for my wife! I am kind of glad she waited a little to decide that she wanted to do a Tough with me in June so that she ended up getting the updated version! Can’t wait to check it out… and must refrain from getting one for myself! LOL… 🙂
Thanks for the update!
Brian Lohr says
Thanks! Grabbed one as well… excited to see how the weight sits compared to the first generation of the Rucker. Please let me know what both you and her think!

Brian, the pack came in today, and it is sweet! I haven’t got to go out with it yet, but with just wearing it for a bit inside, I like the way the pocket moves the weight up better than using styrofoam inserts to lift the weight up in my GR0. I have built a foam lift for my plate similar to the yoga blocks that others use, but the thing about that is that the weight is still being shoved into the bottom of the pack… it’s just softer at the bottom since it’s foam and not a hard weight. The new weight pouch pocket in the Rucker 2.0 completely moves ALL of the weight up to the top though. This results in a much more comfortable and secure feel. I like it a lot… Change of subject, I actually ordered on of the Shadoxx Tactical weight pouches to install in my GRO. I have a feeling that it will result in a similar feel… Although I really just want to pick up a new Rucker 2.0 for myself too… lol! Anyway, hope this helps some! Chad

LOVE the weight pouch on this pack. I can’t say it enough now… it truly feels amazing having that weight lifted so high up. This definitely gives you more “lift” than the cut up yoga block.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the Shaddox Tactical pouch as well. I may or may not have one on order :)
Chad Poindexter says
I have put several miles on my GR0 now with the Shadox Tactical pouch and the 30 lb Expert plate, and I have got to say, I love it! In a nut shell, it does exactly what the new plate pouch in the Rucker 2.0 does. There are a couple of things I think I like better about the Shadox Tactical pocket though… one is that there is some padding in the back of the pocket, and that padding extends over the top of the plate when the flap is closed over the plate. The other is that the entire front of the flap is covered in velcro PAL’s webbing… so even though the pocket is covering the Molle webbing inside the ruck, there is now both velcro, and webbing! Besides that, at $40, it was less expensive to buy this than another pack (that’s bittersweet though…), and to be quite honest, it was a bit of a PITA to install with the Malice Clips (although, that was the first time I had ever used Malice Clips, and if I had to do it again, it would be a little easier…. but, the good news is that I don’t have to do it again!). Anyway, for those with a “GR” pack, and wants the plate pocket, the Shadox Tactical pocket is awesome!
Brian Lohr says
Goodness I have such a love/hate relationship with those clips. I’ve used them a ton and they hold in so well… but OH MY they are impossible to remove. I guess that’s good though… you really don’t want that thing to fall out during the middle of the event. I’ve got both their pockets coming my way (didn’t grab the 45 lb pocket) and can’t wait to give it a shot!
Thank you SO much for letting me know how you like it!
