Just last week GORUCK announced their newest event dubbed GORUCK Racin’. The Racin’ event is a weighted 5k designed to get more people involved in rucking sport and the GORUCK community. Fifteen locations have already been announced which I’m guessing will all occur in 2015. The first three span January – March and the remaining twelve are marked TBA.
The event will consist of three different competitive divisions: Elite, Male, and Female. The elite division sports a 45 lb ruck while the male division requires 35 lbs and female needs 25 lbs. Each division will have a winner (1st place) and two runner-ups (2nd and 3rd). The winner receives $200 in gear credit ($250 for Elite winner), 2nd place receives $100 ($150 for Elite) and 3rd place receives $75 ($100 for Elite). In addition to the credit prize participants who place also receive a special match to commemorate their accomplishment.
Regardless if you win or lose everyone who shows up will go home with something. The event costs $20 (which I think is incredibly cheap) and comes with the following:
- $5 of entry goes right to Team RWB
- 25% off gear (30% off for MIL)
- GORUCK Racin’ Shirt
- GORUCK Racin’ Patch
- 1 Free Beer
When you think about it you’re getting quite the deal for that reasonable price of $20. If you happen to live in one of the following twelve locations then you’re in luck because Racin’ is coming to you soon.
- Jacksonville Beach – 1.17.15
- Tampa – 2.28.15
- San Diego – March 2015
- Colorado – TBA
- Seattle – TBA
- Northern California – TBA
- Los Angeles – TBA
- Chicago – TBA
- Austin – TBA
- Boston – TBA
- New York Metro Area – TBA
- Philly – TBA
- DC – TBA
- Virginia Beach/Norfolk – TBA
- Ft. Bragg/Fayetteville, NC (12-Miler* and 5K) – TBA
There’s a very, very good chance that I’ll be at the Seattle one (depending on the date). I plan to be rucking at a solid pace (12 – 13 min/miles) but will by no means be running with weight… I just love my knees way too much. That being said, if you are planning on doing this I’d highly recommend following a rucking plan so that rucking with weight isn’t a shock to your system. Get some friends together and enjoy a nice weighted ruck.

the other nice thing that I noticed about the 2 scheduled is that they are in the evening instead of early morning… I hope they continue scheduling them around 1700-1800hrs for the rest as well.
