It was a few weeks ago that Big Daddy aka Cadre John posted a link to a list of GORUCK events planned for 2015. The post was made in the Tough group so I never mentioned it on the website. Besides the standard Lights, Challenges, and Heavies there was one event addition to the list called Pre-Selection. I asked Cadre John about Pre-Selection and he said that it would be an extended event (12 – 24 hours) which gets people in the mindset for Selection. With over 300 people signed up for Selection in October, and GORUCK confirming 2 Selection dates for 2015, this is an event that is, I’m sure, going to be very welcomed in the community. I’m guessing there will be a number of people signing up for multiples so that they can hone their gear and equipment.
The first Pre-Selection trial class lasted four hours and ten people showed up. Of those ten people, only four completed it… which should give some idea to the difficulty of the event. There’s a couple short videos on the GORUCK News page regarding this event but I think Cadre Garrett’s quote below sums up what to expect from this.
You’re not going to get anything from this… there’s no patch. But what do you get is a whole lot of eduction. What you just saw for the last four hours is exactly what you’re going to see in Selection. Different exercises, different Cadre. However, it’s going to be just like that.
