GORUCK’s Black Friday Sale 2018 has sure been exciting. With discounts on rucks, gear, apparel, and black MACV-1 boots there’s been something for everyone.
Black MACV-1 Boots
When the black MACV-1 boots released I pre-ordered them immediately. The first thing I did the day they showed up was unbox them…
… after that I put the size 13 boots on and was thrilled with the fit. Four days later I took them through a GORUCK Tough event out in the mountains.

I was very happy with their performance at the event and had a good laugh about the boots with the cadre. Honestly I’ve never owned black boots (I have owned a few pairs of coyote) so the color took some getting used to.
Coyote MACV-1 Boots
GORUCK has now released their MACV-1 boots in coyote. This is exciting news for a number of reasons…
- It means we now have color options and who doesn’t want options?
- It means that GORUCK is doubling down on their footwear. This is critical because GORUCK offers a lifetime warranty on the boots.
We want to see them producing boots for years to come so that they’ll be well versed in repairing them.
While the Black MACV-1 boots are made of Full-grain leather the coyote are made of Suede Leather. Both feature 1000D Cordura on the uppers.
I’ve seen comments from people saying that GORUCK (a backpack company) should not be entering the footwear game. I started following GORUCK back in 2010 and completed my first Tough (called the Challenge back in the day) in 2011. Although GORUCK is now known for being a backpack company that was not always the case. Everyone has to come from somewhere and it was exciting watching GORUCK grow from $50,000 in revenue per year company to a $10+ million in revenue per year.
There were plenty of people saying they should not enter the backpack game back then but look where they are now. This could easily be the same scenario with footwear… and I hope it is.
Back to the boots… I am incredibly excited to see these coyote boots start showing up. I know not everyone is a fan of the color but it doesn’t look bad to me. You can now pre-order the coyote MACV-1 boots (with a mid-December ship date) for $195. Sounds off in the comments… are you a fan of the coyote or not?
I received my Coyote MACV-1s a week ago. I’ve worn them every day since to break them in (including a little over 20 miles of rucking between 32-52 lbs). I have a caveman foot (wide and thick) size 13. The boots are super light and more or less felt broken in after two days. My only issue (because of my caveman feet) is atthe bottom of the tongue and laces is a little tight on the top of my foot. No blisters or hot spots. I do plan on emailing SCARS to see if the warranty is affected by using custom prescription orthotics.
