Honestly we had to do a triple take on this one… GORUCK just released roughly 230 black 26L GR2s. What is a 26L GR2? According to the specs it’s a 26L GR1 but with the internal GR2 divider. It would be incredibly interesting to see one of these in person as we are very curious how much room is left over in each of the two pockets.
The first question we had was who is this ruck for? After thinking about it for a bit it’s probably meant for two groups. The first is the person who would carry a 26L GR1 but wants a shorter pack with two sections… now they can have that in a 26L GR2.
The second is probably for the person who everyday carries a GORUCK Echo or similarly small pack. The move from a 16L Echo to a 26L GR2 would be roughly the same as moving from a 26L GR1 to a 34L or 40L GR2. Personally a 26L GR1 + 34L or 40L GR2 would serve me for 99% of all use cases… maybe this move is to give that same combo to the crew that carries an Echo?
Either way the 26L GR2 comes in at $495 which is the new price the GORUCK’s GR2. Although we would love to grab one to shoot comparison pictures against a 26L GR1 and (obviously) a 34L and 40L GR2 that’s a large pill to swallow for a few posts. Who knows… we’ll see what happens. Either way we would love to hear your thoughts on this new GR2 size. There’s a lively discussion going on over at our Facebook page.

Thanks for the given information on the topic. I stumbled upon this blog post because I’m searching for a shorter GORUCK bag with more volume, the GR2 sits just too low on my back. Does anyone know how to get one of these or where I could ask for it. Any help is highly appreciated!
Greetings from Germany and thank you

Greetings! Unfortunately GORUCK only made 300 of these and they haven’t made any more since. One recently sold for around $700 on eBay which is a big premium off of the original price. Hopefully GORUCK does another order of these because the secondary market prices are crazy!

Hello Brian,
thank you for your answer. I really hope that more will be made in the future. Since I received my GR 2 I really enjoy the quality and usability of Goruck rucksacks. And this model looks like the perfect fit for my needs.
Have a nice day :)!

Id love to see a 34L GR1..basically a gr2 without the divider…

That would be rad! Like the GR3 just in the same size as a 34L GR2?

I long wished for a 26L GR1 with the divider/organization of a GR2, but going with the shortness of a the 21L is an odd. Was so close to have having the perfect ruck.

I’m supper interested in this. I have a 26L GR1 but the the 21GR1 fits my frame better being 5”7. But I need the capacity of the 26. My concern is also the depth of the bag, if it will stick out too far off my back. I wish they made a 24L GR1 with the height of the the 21 (18”) and depth of the 26L (6.75”). I currently have a 26L GR1 and really enjoy it.

Thanks for the update on this! I’d just spotted this yesterday via a group on Facebook and was just as surprised.
Being a space-efficient 5’5 and a longtime GR0 carrier, I’m particularly curious how this pack would wear since it’s the same height as the 21L GR1/GR0. For a long time I’ve wondered what a GR1 with a secondary compartment would be like… and the 26L GR2 seems to be the answer!
My only concern about this is just whether the depth of the pack (listed as 7.25″ on the site) would be too much. Having tried and later sold a 34L GR2, I really liked its organization but didn’t think it worked well on my frame with its 9″ depth.
