A few weeks ago Jason dropped a bombshell of an announcement in the GORUCK Tough (private) group regarding GORUCK events for 2020. He mentioned that everything he had written were just discussion points and that he wanted to hear back from the community about the ideas he had.
Throughout reading this post remember that you can get 50% off any non-firearms day GORUCK events with the code GETSOME2019. Now is probably the best time to register for a new event.

The Major Updates
Jason just posted in the GORUCK Subreddit (which is public) a modified announcement based off the feedback he received. Although these updates are not quite as severe of a cut there are still some huge changes being made for 2020. My guess is that some of you who read this will be rethinking your 2019 event calendar.
GORUCK Heavy Events
There will be MUCH fewer GORUCK Heavy events in 2020 when compared to 2019. According to Jason there were over 50 Heavies in 2019 and he expects somewhere between 15 and 20 for the entire year of 2020.
To put that in perspective for the 75th anniversary of D-Day GORUCK put on 12 Heavy events… that’s almost as many as they’re planning for all of 2020.
GORUCK Tough/Light Events
In 2019 GORUCK put on roughly 300 Tough/Light events. They’re planning on halving that number for 2020. Lights will be attached to Toughs so you’ll see the Tough on Friday night and the Light on Saturday.
What Does This Mean For The HTL?
With 15 – 20 GORUCK Heavy events occuring in 2020 that means, by default, there will be less GORUCK HTL events in 2020 than 2019. GORUCK has decided to push this even further and announce that there will be only two GORUCK HTL events for all of 2020. That means if you want to complete an HTL in 2020 there’s a good chance you’ll be traveling to it.
Double Heavy Events
Up until this point in time the only Double Heavy events (that’s back to back GORUCK Heavy events) have been customs. GORUCK has announced that there will be two official GORUCK Double Heavy events in 2020. Just like with the HTL in 2020 there is a good chance you’ll need to travel for these.
GORUCK Star Course
It’s not all cuts over at GORUCK for 2020. GORUCK will be roughly doubling the number of Star Course events they’re putting on. There were 28 cities in 2019 and the plan is 50 – 55 cities in 2020.
Another big announcement here is that not all Star Course cities will receive the Star Course 50 Mile. Some will only get the Star Course 12 and Star Course 26.2. The Star Course is one of my favorite events and I’m so glad to see it continuing to expand!
GORUCK Selection 2020
There will be no GORUCK Selection for 2020. You heard that right… as of right now there are no plans for a GORUCK Selection event in 2020. If you were aiming to hit Selection next year then you’ve got two options: hit the gym NOW and get ready for October, 2019 (there’s still time) or wait and see what happens in 2021. Neither of those options sound too amazing.
What Does This All Mean?
There are absolutely some major changes happening in the events department over at GORUCK. If you want to complete an HTL in the near future (and don’t want to travel) then look again at the 2019 events.
The same goes for Heavy events… there’s no telling where GORUCK will place the 15 – 20 Heavy events in 2020. If you have one near you in the next few months (and want to take part in a Heavy) then you should probably give it another thought.
Finally, there’s no Selection for 2020 so if that was on your radar I guess it’s either 2019 or 2021. There’s still three months to get in Selection shape if you start training now.
With all of these announcements I’m curious if this changes your plans for 2019 or 2020? If so let me know in the comments whether you are signing up for something new (because of this announcement) or your overall thoughts on what Jason had to say. Remember that you can still get 50% off all non-firearms day events with the code GETSOME2019 so look at that 2019 calendar again with all of these thoughts in your mind.
I have some mixed feelings but I think less events will give the events that are occuring on any given weekend a bigger focus. Only time will tell!

how did you write this in the FUTURE?!?!?!?

I with my time traveling abilities were able to be used for anything other than writing posts about events :-/
