One goal of All Day Ruckoff is to highlight things that are happening in the GORUCK community. As the GORUCK community (and the ADR website) continue to expand you can probably start to expect more posts in this style. Today I want to highlight a Kickstarter campaign for a new clothing company run by two of GORUCK’s Cadre (Cadre Brent and Cadre Lou).
Compass Rose is a new clothing company created and developed by a team of four which includes two GORUCK Cadre. The team consists of Brent (President of SWSF & GORUCK Cadre), Lou (Woodsman & GORUCK Cadre), Bill (U.S.M.C. Vet & Tug Boatman), and Aron (Entrepreneur & Outdoor Enthusiast). Their goal is to design and produce clothing that is made right here in the USA that allows you to be you. Sounds simple enough but in a world where every brand is trying to mold you into something this is a welcome (and refreshing) change.
The idea is simple. It’s all about being yourself, about finding yourself, and not being someone or something. The man makes the clothes. Our clothes are there to give you the chance to prove it, and to last the entire time you’re doing so. We’re not out to prove anything. High quality products made in the USA speak for themselves and history has already proved that to be true. And we’re not out to show that we’re better than anyone. The only guys we’re concerned about being better than are the guys we were yesterday.
The first product they’ll be producing (after successful Kickstarter funding) is a great looking red flannel. What makes this red flannel special, you might ask? Besides the fact that it’s made in the USA you can already tell that Compass Rose has great attention to detail. For example, the cuffs of the shirt are cut at a 45 degree angle which will make them less likely to snag when un-buttoned. In addition, instead of using buttons on the collar they’re going with collar stays. Having shirts that have both button and collar stays I can say from experience that I’m very happy with this… I just hope they include a few extras because if you keep them in you’ll lose them in the wash.
Our backgrounds combine time spent on trading floors, tug boats, and in war. Three of the four Compass Rose partners are Veterans, with decades of combined Special Operations experience. We aren’t selling an image. We are encouraging the lives and lifestyles that we all strive to lead; one full of adventure, courage, honesty, integrity, a love for the outdoors, and a desire to set the right example for our children and the next generation.
Compass Rose has already reached their $10,000 funding level but that’s no reason not to help start them off and purchase a great item. The flannel is at the $75 level but there is a limited “Bulldog” edition flannel at $135. Don’t want to spend that much? Fund at the $5 level and get a hand-written thank you note from them… it’s not every day you can get a hand-written thank you note from some GORUCK Cadre.
This looks awesome. They smashed their goals. Cant wait to see their future products.
