The GORUCK Tough event (previously called the GORUCK Challenge) is the middle (in terms of difficulty) in the GORUCK Challenge event series. This is a rucking event which means the entire event is performed with a backpack full of weight.
This page is about the GORUCK Tough event but we have many specific articles that you might enjoy more.

What is the GORUCK Tough?
The GORUCK Tough is a 10 – 12 hour and 15 – 20 mile endurance event that you complete with your class. Your class consists of everyone who signed up (and more importantly showed up) for the event. Each GORUCK Tough event is led by a GORUCK Cadre who has the task of showing you how strong you truly are.
We challenge you to put your team before yourself. We teach you how to lead, how to follow, and how to overcome adversity together. And you get to keep these lessons with you for the rest of your life.
Each event is slightly different as there are dozens of GORUCK Cadre and all bring their own special twist to the event. You should definitely expect push-ups, log PT, rucking, and lots of physical activity. In addition each person has to carry a backpack with weight (20 lbs if their weight is under 150 and 30 lbs if it’s over) for the duration of the event.
This is the original GORUCK Event, the one where we prove to you that you are capable of so much more than you ever thought possible when you work as a team. Earn the GORUCK Tough patch and you’ll find out that it’s a way of life and a community with some of the best people you could ever hope to meet.
GORUCK always has hundreds of events open for registration on their website… check to see if there’s one coming to an area near you soon! Register, train, then complete your event.
What Do You Get?
What do you get if you complete the GORUCK Tough event? A patch and a handshake.
Some events have special GORUCK Tough event patches but they all mean the same thing and are all only worth as much as the sweat and hard work you put into the event.

Other GORUCK Challenge Events
There are two other events, in addition to the GORUCK Tough, within the GORUCK Challenge series: GORUCK Light and GORUCK Heavy.
While the GORUCK Tough event lasts 10 – 12 hours and spans the course of the night the GORUCK Light is a more moderate 4 – 5 hours. In addition, instead of being 15 – 20 miles long the GORUCK Light is only 7 – 10.
Maybe you’re still not sure about GORUCK yet (what exactly is this, again?) but you want to do something because everyone tells you how great the people are and that it’s worth it. They’re right by the way and welcome to GORUCK Light. It means lighter vibe, lighter loads and less time commitment, which means more time to party with your class after you’re done.
If you’re looking to get your feet wet in GORUCK events then a GORUCK Light is the perfect place to start.
While the GORUCK Tough event lasts 10 – 12 hours and spans the course of the night the GORUCK Heavy is a more grueling 24 hours+.In addition, instead of being 15 – 20 miles long the GORUCK Heavy is a savage 40+ miles long.
This is a test of your desire to overcome under conditions of significant physical and mental stress. There’s more weight, more miles, and no sleep which makes for a lot more time for the Cadre to push participants past their limits.
It’s highly recommended to try out a GORUCK Tough before attempting the GORUCK Heavy however it’s not required.
If you’re interested in registering for a GORUCK Tough event then head on over to the GORUCK website and sign up for one in your area. It’s that easy!
