EVERGOODS CPL24 Ultra Red Limited Edition Backpack

On November 1st, 2018 EVERGOODS released 100 of their CPL24 backpacks in an Ultra Red colorway.

What is Ultra Red?

The Ultra Red color that EVERGOODS chose looks different under various lighting. EVERGOODS has a great blog post on why they chose Ultra Red for this backpack color.

In some lighting it almost looks coral like above…

… while in other lighting it looks blood red. I didn’t apply any filters to any of these pictures because nothing seemed to give a solid feel for what the pack looks like in all environments.

Our attempt was to find a hue that was certainly red, but one that would appear more or less so depending on the lighting in a given environment.

You’ll see throughout this post that the backpack does indeed feel more or less red depending on where the sun is when the picture was taken.

CPL24 Review Video

If you are curious what I think about the CPL24 after using it for months then make sure to check out the review video above!

Unboxing Video

If you’re curious what unboxing this backpack looks like as well as some additional perspective check out the video above.

The Outside

In this lighting (sun was behind clouds) the backpack looks nearly blood red however I can promise you it doesn’t always look this way.

The patch area on the front is a solid red and can get lost in the fabric. It’s a lot more subtle than the black CPL24.

The pulls on the ends of the zipper have a little bit of shine to them.

The webbing on the shoulder straps have generous loops which is great if you’re using them with heavier gloves.

The zipper pulls are made of the same webbing as the tabs at the base of the zippers.

I’m very impressed with EVERGOODS ability to find matching hardware… even the strap on the inside of the vertical pocket is red!

The inside of the vertical pocket is a nice gray which is actually lighter than the original black CPL24.

The side handle on the red pack blends into the bag really well. It’s also incredibly useful.

On the front you see a few pieces of non-red hardware.

Sternum strap connection connections are the same as before.

The EVERGOODS logo is also sewn directly into the sternum strap which is a nice touch.

The shoulder straps are connected to the bag via fabric which makes the fit comfortable.

The shoulder straps both have exit points if you plan to use a hydration bladder.

The top handle (because of the fabric) blends into the bag as well which is really cool.

The Inside

The inside of the pack is a very light gray. There were no changes made in the design between the Kickstarter CPL24 and the Ultra Red.

The pockets are designed the same however the mesh used on the lower pocket is different than the Kickstarter CPL24.

The Kickstarer version is more of a diamond pattern while the Ultra Red version is a square pattern.

Here’s where you can see that box pattern a little better.

One interesting element on the internal tag is the year. The Kickstarter version says 2018 while the Ultra Red has a 2019 tag. Maybe EVERGOODS released these a little bit before they were expecting to or maybe mine is just from the future!

The contrast between the light gray interior and red zipper looks really nice.

Laptop Compartment

The laptop compartment is made of the light gray material as well. This light gray material makes it easier to view what’s actually inside some of these deeper pockets.

The internal tag there has the purchase order as well as the quality control stamp.

While the flip side has similar text without the purchase order information.

The frame sheet is nice and sturdy and is also removable. If you’re not a fan of the stiffness you can easily take it out.

Conclusion

Hopefully this post gives you some more views and info into the Ultra Red CPL24. This is an incredibly good looking bag however it is bright and very unique. It is not for everyone.

I think the accents and colors on it are pretty cool. Interestingly enough this bag blends into my environment (Seattle suburbs) better than some other bags including the GORUCK GR1. Pretty much everyone here has some bright bag from REI, Patagonia, or North Face so this Ultra Red CPL24 fits right in.

EVERGOODS only made 100 of these packs and as of this post there are roughly 35 left in stock. If you are interested in this color then you should probably pick it up sooner rather than later! Have any thoughts on the CPL24 or this colorway of the bag? Leave a comment below!
