I sell Field Notes brand notebooks in my online store for a reason. This reason is not to get rich… because it definitely won’t make me rich. The reason is that I want to do what I can to support an awesome American company do what they love to do. Every time I place an order through Field Notes I know I’m supporting our economy, USA manufacturing, and the dreams of Field Notes. I buy Field Notes for many of the same reasons that I buy $300 backpacks from GORUCK… because they are made here, they are made well, and they are made by people who respect the trade.
Love of the Notebook
Each notebook they make is filled with glimpses of how much they love what they do. The back inside cover of each features the specifications of the notebook. These are not your typical size and weight specs but include much, much more. They are filled with wording such as “Proudly printed by the good people of Flywheel Letterpress, Freeport, Ill., and the equally good people of Service Graphics Inc., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.” They list what types of machines made the notebook, cut the edges, stapled it together, and who had a hand in creating it. Each notebook that they create is treated as if it were a piece of artwork… because to them it is. Look at the specs of the Red Blooded version and tell me that these people are not passionate about what they do.
It’s for this reason that I spend a little bit extra and buy these products. Sure they’re not as cheap as notebooks from the dollar store or backpacks from Walmart but they’re made here and they support people who legitimately love what they do. I know a lot of my readers are GRT and look to GORUCK as a great company. I want to use some of this space (and the online store) to highlight companies that are as awesome as GORUCK but in different areas. For notebooks I think that brand is Field Notes.
