The SOURCE Tactical ILPS 3L bladder is a close cousin to the popular WLPS 3L bladder. The ILPS is a low profile bladder that carries 2 liters of water when used in a ballistic vest and 3 liters of water when in a ruck. In addition to getting the bladder you also receive a Universal Tube Adapter (UTA) which you can use to fill your bladder from a tap, water bottle, or other water source.
To confirm, this kit comes with:
- ILPS 3L Hydration Bladder System
- Universal Tube Adapter (UTA)
The ILPS 3L bladder is an interesting one because the tube runs off of the bladder horizontally. This is ideal for a ballistic vest situation but can be tougher in smaller rucks or rucks without much additional space. Feeding the tube horizontally means that the hose has to snake up a little to exist at the top of the pack. Source hydration bladders are time tested and one of the most popular bladders you will see at a GORUCK event.
When it comes to GORUCK events I’ve had weird luck with bladders. The first I bought was a CamelBak and it broke on me during my first event. The second I bought was an MSR Dromedary 4L which has a tendency to leak everywhere. The third bladder I bought was from Source and (back in 2012) and it’s still working to this day. I’ve replaced the hose on it once but that was it.
Between 2012 and present I’ve bought a number of Source bladders to keep around for guests but I’ve never had to replace one. I consider myself pretty lucky in this regard but, because of that, Source is the bladder I recommend for GORUCK events.
If this is your first bladder purchase and your backpack has webbing then don’t forget to pick up an ITW GrimLoc. You won’t regret using one keep your hydration hose in check.
