The HVS-V makes great racing stripes for your ruck – almost like go-fast chrome for cars. It also makes for great visibility. But what if color isn’t your thing? Maybe you bought a black ruck for a reason. Introducing the HVS-V Webbed Edition. It comes in two varieties, both have a backing of high tenacity black polypropylene webbing rated at 900 lbs. tensile strength at only 0.032” thick. The white striped version uses 3M Super Engineering Grade reflective tape, and the black striped version features 3M Engineering Grade reflective tape.
The HVS-V is another Todd Forkner (aka Gear N8tion) creation. This time around he has made a reflective strap meant to ensure you are seen by your team (and cars) at night. The strap attaches to the 3″x2″ patch panel on your ruck then loops around and attaches at the webbing on the bottom. Once secured it holds on tight and does its job. The attachment point on the 3″x2″ patch panel has loop material on it so, don’t worry, you can still attach a patch to your ruck.
No one really knows what the HVS-V stands for… some say it means “Hard, Very Severe” which is how I’d describe a GORUCK event. Others say it stands for “Hyper-Velocity Star” which sounds awesome… basically they’re stars that can travel up to 2 million miles per hour. I’m not sure the HVS-V will make you faster but it’s worth a shot.
The one gripe I’ve heard about the HVS-V is that if you use the outer pocket frequently it can get frustrating to have to either slip your hand between the HVS-V and your pack or detach the HVS-V, grab your item, then attach the HVS again. This really isn’t too bad because you only have to remove the Velcro at that the 3″x2″ area to have full range of the pocket but I can see how people would get annoyed. If, however, you are not in and out of your back pocket much then this would not be an issue for you.

Ordered the black/white to go with both my black GR0 and American GR0. My first foray into an upgrade from the “ankle bands” I put through my MOLLE. Crazy bright and super easy to install. I plan to buy more for my other rucks!
If your ruck is full, this can slightly impede access to the slash pocket. If it’s not full, there’s just enough slack to slip your hand underneath and in the pocket.

I purchased the black/white to use for high visibility during my late night rucks. The webbing is good quality and the reflective part shines bright. Not sure if I will end up using for an event but might end up trying it out.
