Shoe Sizing - Size Up or No?
My latest question is around shoe sizing.
I've read several places that say size up.
And also several people that say they didn't need too.
I've rucked 9 and 12 miles in my size with no real adverse effects. After the 12 miler I was surprised at how my ankles felt more than anything else. I don't think that's from shoe sizing. It was just interesting how tight they were in flexion but not extension. Felt like I was walking on a peg leg that night. That did not happen after the 9 miler.
So anyway, if I've got a little room in my current size, should I try sizing up a half size or is that not always necessary. I'm worried about buying shoes and them not being the best fit.
With mine I ended up keeping my regular shoe size although I did buy both a size up and a size down. When I'm rucking I would prefer to have a little extra room rather than a little less room. Your feet will swell a little bit so it's nice to have some place to go. In addition, it's easier to put on another layer of socks to fill up space than it is to make your toes shorter :)
In the end, with my regular shoe size, they seem perfect for rucking. I use the Darn Tough Cushion socks and they have some additional padding which helps fill the space.
