GORUCK Chad 1000X (Chad Wilkinson) Hero WOD 2020 Fundraiser

GORUCK has partnered with Sara Wilkinson for a fundraiser workout surrounding the Hero WOD “Chad” in honor of Navy SEAL Chad Wilkinson. According to Sara Wilkinson, Chad would do this workout (1,000 box steps with a 45 lb pack) when he was training to climb Mt. Aconcagua. The “Chad” WOD has been around since 2018 when CrossFit Games Director Dave Castro along friends completed the workout to pay tribute to him.

The “Chad” Hero WOD

The “Chad” Hero WOD is 1,000 step ups on a 20″ box with a 45 lb pack on. For the Chad 1000X workout GORUCK has put together three different options to allow for scaling.

  1. Slick // No rucksack. You pick the height of the step-ups.
  2. Standard // 30#/20# rucksack. You pick the height of the step-ups.
  3. Expert // 45# rucksack. Use 20″ box for step-ups.

I know in this community we like to push it in everything we do. With that in mind the following quote can be useful especially if you don’t want to train specifically for this event or if you’re not ready for 1,000 step ups at 45 lbs.

Even while serving as a SEAL, Chad took time to scale up to the Expert version. There is zero shame in starting Slick, or with Standard weight, or in sharing the steps with a friend.

Sara Wilkinson

To help get you ready for this GORUCK has put together a 4 week training plan with goals that you should be reaching. Each week features three workouts which should prepare you for the Chad 1000X.

The Fundraiser

All proceeds from Chad 1000X patches and t-shirts sold will go to brain and mental health programs funded by the Navy SEAL Foundation.

There’s two different bundles that GORUCK is selling: T-Shirt + Patch & Women’s Tank + Patch. Each ring in at $40 with the pre-order ending 11/11/2020. If you get your order in before 10/16/2020 then you should receive your gear by 11/11/2020. If you order after then you should receive it in late November.

Final Thoughts

I’ve got my pre-order in and will be doing one version of the event in November. Are you planning on doing this event? Let me know in the comments which version (Slick, Standard, or Expert) you’re going to attempt in November!
